The Atharvaveda (a tatpurusha compound of atharvan, an ancient Rishi, and veda, meaning knowledge) is a sacred text of Hinduism and one of the four Vedas, often called the fourth Veda. According to tradition, the Atharvaveda was mainly composed by two groups of rishis known as the Atharvanas and the Angirasa, hence its oldest name is Ātharvāngirasa. In the Late Vedic Gopatha Brahmana, it is attributed to the Bhrigu and Angirasa. Additionally, tradition ascribes parts to other rishis, such as Kauśika, Vasistha and Kaśyapa. There are two surviving recensions (śākhās), known as Śaunakīya and Paippalāda.

The Sama veda (from sāman melody and veda knowledge), is second (in the usual order) of the four Vedas, the ancient core Hindu scriptures. Its earliest parts are believed to date from 1700 BC (since all of its verses are from the Rigveda) and it ranks next in sanctity and liturgical importance to the Rigveda. It consists of a collection (samhita) of hymns, portions of hymns, and detached verses, all but 75 taken from the Sakala Sakha of the Rigveda, the other 75 belong to the Bashkala Sakha, to be sung, using specifically indicated melodies called Samagana, by Udgatar priests at sacrifices in which the juice of the Soma plant, clarified and mixed with milk and other ingredients, is offered in libation to various deities.

The Rigveda is an ancient Indian sacred collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns. It is counted among the four canonical sacred texts (sruti) of Hinduism known as the Vedas. Some of its verses are still recited as Hindu prayers, at religious functions and other occasions, putting these among the world's oldest religious texts in continued use. The Rigveda contains several mythological and poetical accounts of the origin of the world, hymns praising the gods, and ancient prayers for life, prosperity, etc.

This great prayer is chanted before the reading of Chandi path / Sapthasathi (known as Devi Mahathmya) in the northern parts of India. It is more thanthric in nature and has been taught by Lord Shiva to Goddess Parvathi. Devotees believe that just a recitation of Sidha Kunjika stotram is equivalent to recitation of the complete Chandi (Devi Mahatmyam) and also that the reading of Chandi Path (Devi Mahatmya) would not give complete results without reading Sidha Kunjika stotram before it.
