Kali Naruluku Thelipemi
By Saint Thyagaraja
Translated by P. R. Ramachander

Raga Kunthala varali
Thala Aadhi

Pallavi

Kali narulukku mahimalu thelipemi,
Palamana letha

Anupallavi

Illanu velayu vara vruksha rajulakkadu,
Kularuschi theliyu chandamu kani

Charanam

Darasuthulagai dhanamunakai ooru,
Perulakai bahu petha dhanamukai,
Sareku bhaktha veshamu konuvariki,
Tharaka nama Sri Thyagarajarchitha

English Translation

Pallavi

Is there any use?
To tell your greatness,
To the people born in kali age,

Anupallavi

It is like teaching the roaming royal bull,
The taste of things like beaten rice.

Charanam

Thyagaraja feels that is useless,
As it is like telling the name of Rama,
Who put on the act of a devotee,
For the sake of wife, wealth,
For the sake of children and great fame.
